MBA admissions 2009 – Why MBA

Sometime in 2008 I decided to quit my job and get back to school for an MBA degree. My CEO at that point and immediate boss, both were taken by surprise and there first question was why MBA? I moved on and even after CAT 2008 disaster (For the entire exam I kept on thinking that the exam was 3 hours or something), I somehow managed to land a few calls. Everywhere I went, the first question invariably was Why MBA? Fortunately for me, I knew Why MBA, more so because I was quitting job at a high and for me, it was very important to be sure of the answer to this question. Now that I have completed a year at a B school, I realize the importance and relevance of the answer to why MBA question. I have friends, who are still confused about their existence in a b school and if the confusion persists, they will end up making some wrong choices.
The point, I am trying to make here is that before you dig deep in MBA preparations, make sure that you dig deeper and answer that question for yourself. If you are reading this, chances are, that you are confused and are looking for a perfect answer to that question. Don’t look for an answer, just because some one just might ask it and you don’t want to be in a tight spot, answer it because this answer is going to define your career trajectory.
Most of the popular forums and blogs have articles tackling this question and a quick bing search will take you to some of these results. Here are some of the reasons these forums or blogs think are reasons enough for any one to go for MBA,
- Change career path
- Make more money
- make good of a booming economy
- and bla bla bla..
Some of the experts, are better than the people who give you reasons quoted above, they will tell you how important it is to map your personality with MBA or your career path so far with need for MBA. This doesn’t work either. Simply because, if you know why MBA, then you need not read this and for that matter any thing else on the topic. Its easier to follow the herd and give reasons why you are following the herd, but the fact remains, those who follow the heard, always remain one of the herd. Those who know why the want to take a decision in life are generally the people who end up being in front of the herd.
So, before you bother about CAT 2009 going online or what material to buy for CAT prep or your perfect CAT 2009 preparation calendar, Just sit down, relax and think, Why MBA?
