CAT 2009 : Retest in January 2010

After CAT 2009 fiasco and the high profile meeting of IIM directors and MHRD officials, a notification was released on CAT website on 17th of December. Notification highlights the fact that out of 2.4L students who appeared for the test, more than 2L successfully completed the test. Students who could not complete the test due to various reasons will be given another chance to appear for the test in second half of January 2010. Telephone calls, emails, letters and complaints filed at the centres will be taken into consideration while ascertaining the genuinity of claims.
The notification also seems to address those who have been raising voice against the test. For example, it says that only 500 students had issues with ‘End’ button. There too, the notification says that there were failsafe measures built into the system to make sure that such events do not occur. There was a report in Business Standard last week, claiming that some candidates cheated and were caught doing so on video cameras. However, the notification points out that the questions were randomised and not more than two tests had questions in common, making cheating a highly unlikely event.
